Case of 6 Riesling GC Rosacker 2009 Cave de Hunawihr
Cave de Hunawihr is lacated in the Haut-Rhin, 9km from Colmar. It was rated the best co-operative in Alsace, and third in the whole of France, by the Revue de Vins de France in 2005. Winemaker Nicolas Garde started at the winery in 2004, and his influence is now being seen in the
way the wines are improving with each vintage. The vineyards are planted with 24% Riesling, 21% Pinot Blanc, 18% Gewürtztraminer, 14% Pinot Gris and 14% Pinot Noir.
The 5.6 hectare Rosacker vineyard is north of Hunawihr, a small village between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr; this is also where the famous parcel of Clos St Hune is located. It lies 260-330m above sea level, with heavy, clay soils rich in calcium and magnesium, with limestone pebbles. The vines are 35 years old on average.
This wine is straw yellow with elegant green-silver tints. The bouquet opens with lime, grapefruit, fresh pear and fine hints of minerality. The palate follows with an elegant structure and great concentration. Lime and grapefruit are joined on the long finish by a final mineral note.
